picture this: you're 6-year-old me. it's been a long day of kindergarten, and you're at home now and bored out of your mind. your father calls you down into the basement, and tells you he wants to watch a show with you that an american friend of his used to watch as a kid. sounds like fun! so he pops a dvd into the dvd player, and youre greeted with this.

ladies, gentleman, and unearthly anomalies, this is the menu screen of the ducktales (1987) volume 1 dvd. and this was the shit.

i latched onto ducktales as soon as i watched the contents of the dvd that day, which i hadnt even known any english then, so i was basically watching it without knowing what the hell was going on. to this day, im still fixated on ducktales, and its one of my biggest special interests ever.

ive consumed basically everything ducktales-related, and not just the 1987 series. the 2017 reboot? fantastic, best reboot ever made. the comics? love them. the nes game? hell yeah. darkwing duck? absolutely. the incredibly short podcast they made after the 2017 series ended? should've been longer.

why do you like it so much?

well, i dont really know. maybe its the sense of childlike wonder at the whole "going on a sick adventure with your cool trillionaire uncle" thing, or perhaps its the family bond hdw have with scrooge. or, you know, maybe i just like ducks! most likely, though, its just very nostalgic to me and my autism just cant let it go.

also, webby and lena's friendship in the reboot is the best thing ever and you can't change my mind.

im not a ducktales fan but i want to get into it, where should i start?

trick question, actually!

if you watched the ducktales 1987 series in your childhood... start with that, and then watch the ducktales reboot. ducktales 1987 kind of has an extra charm to it if youve got nostalgia goggles on, so youll have a more pleasurable experience this way.

if you didnt... start with the reboot, and then watch the original series. the reboot is amazing, and although im quite biased towards the 1987 original series, theres no way that i can really deny that the 2017 reboot is better in quality and is more enjoyable for newcomers. either way, its essentially guaranteed youll get a good experience watching ducktales.

who's your favorite character?

oh, you know...

look, i have tons of reasons to like the iteration of webby from the reboot. she's an action girl, a huge dork, and best of all? she's voiced by kate micucci, who plays a character in one of my other favorite cartoon franchises (velma from scooby doo, of course). but my reasoning for liking the original webby, despite her being one of the most hated characters in the original series?

it's simple: she's cute and you guys are too fucking hard on her. she's a little girl for gods sake, cool it.

is ducktales goated?

yes.
